Addicted to Addicts: Survival 101 – Understanding the Twelve Steps
Last week we spoke about Practical Recovery, an alternative treatment model to the traditional twelve step treatment plan which is used in the majority of treatment facilities here in the US. This week, with my guest, Dr. Allen Berger, we are going to discuss that traditional model, that of the Twelve Steps.
Dr. Berger has been helping people establish and enrich their recovery for over 34 years. He pioneered cutting edge treatment programs focused on treating the family as a whole. He is often found speaking at recovery seminars and celebrations around the country. He received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of California, Davis and also had the unique privilege to train closely with two famous psychiatrists – William C. Rader and Walter Kempler. Dr. Berger has worked as both a counselor and clinical supervisor in two of Southern California’s finest treatment programs, San Pedro Peninsula Hospital and South Bay Hospital.
