This is my favorite interview I have ever done. I had the pleasure of interviewing Don for my book, “Moms rate the CEO’s of Life”.
Don Kirshner was king from the 50′s to the 70′s. He was called “The Man With The Golden Ear” by Time magazine. He discovered Carol King, Neil Sadaka, Tony Orlando, Monkee’s and many more.
He started “Don Kirshner Rock Concerts” and many more avenues for rock music.
If you ever listened to music in the 50′s through the 80″s this is the one show you need to listen to. I had the honor to be the last person to interview Don before he died, so this interview is close to my heart. I know if you listen you realize who awesome this show is but also what he gave to music.

So many times something happens to us and we think its the end of the world. It always seems to get worse before it gets better. I got poison ivy every summer when I was a young and one particular summer the doctor had to come to our house to give me shots for the poison ivy. It was from that I learned the lesson from my mom.

Growing up my father owned a record shop so music was a large part of my life growing up. When I was young my mom would always listen to the radio or stereo and ask me if i wanted to sing with her. I would get all excited and she would pick me up and we would sing the song and she would tell me how everything was better when we sang.
My brother, myself and a couple other people are doing a book on the British Invasion of music in the early 60′s through Woodstock and how it changed allot of industries. So I have my brother on as my guest and he is going to talk about the music industry leading up to the British Invasion and how it lead to a whole new sound.
On our segment ,”My House That Built Me”, I have Barry Hunt as our guest and it is awesome what he has to say. He grew up in England right after World War Two and gives us a perspective of what it was like living in a bombed out Europe after the war.

In today’s market everyone is trying to get an edge for a job or promotion. A sure fire way is look your best from “nose to toes”. My mother taught me about looking my best when i was young and wearing nothing but blue jeans and t-shirts.

In today’s environment its easy to get angry and want to fight back, once you do that you loose. The other lesson is about thinking out of the book. In stressful times we all tend to get in a rut so its good sometimes to stop and look at things from a different perspective, like my mom said, “when your cold have hot chocolate”.

In today’s life we all have fears, big and small, and today they continue to get larger. President Roosevelt spoke a great line to the American people, “we have nothing to fear but fear it self”. My mom taught me the same thing but put it in words I would understand, “there is no such thing as the boogie man”. I tell the story of how I learned it but most importantly how I applied it to my life. That lesson completely changed my life and made me a salesman I never thought I could be. Its very easy to to follow the pack. My mother always taught the lesson, “if everyone jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge would you” letting me know I needed to do the right thing not what everyone else did. Kelvin Taylor, Managing partner of Taylored Analytical Marketing learned the same lesson growing up. He grew up in Natchez, Mississippi and did something most people don’t do, succeed. His mother Thelma made sure he did not do what others do and that he excelled in academics.
He did that, scholarship to college and now owner in three companies, his marketing company, Nicene Brands, and Moments and Time. It is a very compelling story of success.
