The Accidental Guru – Meet Dr. Desiree Cox, a true renaissance woman and an expert in self-recovery.

Dr. Desirée Cox is a Rhodes Scholar, a medical doctor and former Associate Professor of Behavioral Sciences with a dynamic career marked by exceptional achievements in real-world settings. Recognized as a ‘Renaissance Woman’ by the prestigious British Medical Journal, particularly gifted at working across traditional subject boundaries, integrating cutting edge discoveries in medicine, the sciences and the arts to bring fresh perspectives to improving people’s psychological well-being. Her outstanding ability and reputation for applying creative thinking to the design and implementation of behavioral-change interventions with outcomes that not only exceed expectation, but also inspire others to activate and expand their own capacity for self-recovery and psychological well-being.
Born in the slums of Nassau, Bahamas, Desiree obtained her first degree from McGill University, in Montreal Canada where she specialized in chemistry and quantum chemistry. After obtaining her BSc (Hons) studying at McGill, Desirée went on to study medicine at Oxford University as the first woman Rhodes Scholar from the British Caribbean region. A prize-winning medical student, she then went on to Cambridge University where she received a Masters of Philosophy degree and then PhD in history of medicine.
She worked as a medical doctor for a while, but as she began to explore her own creative potential she found that her unique gifts lay in helping others fulfill their potential as multi-dimensional beings. Desirée is also an accomplished jazz-singer with 2 CDs, a writer and a visual artist whose art has been recognized among international contemporary master artists in International Contemporary Masters III (2010 and 2011).
