Interview with historian Kate Clifford Larson, author of the biographies, Bound for the Promised Land: Harriet Tubman, Portrait of an American Hero, and The Assassin’s Accomplice: Mary Surratt and the Plot to Kill Abraham Lincoln. Larson tells how she became interested in Tubman and informs us that the historical Harriet is a bit different than the legend through which we have to come know her. She regales us with tales of Tubman’s remarkable character, her Underground Railroad collaborators, and some of her exploits. She concludes by explaining why Tubman is important today.
