It’s hard to be a confident adult these days, trying to live up to society’s standards of beauty and success. So it should go without saying that raising confident kids under the same societal pressure is proving to be tricky. Photoshop’d images of celebrities are everywhere, telling us all, “This is what beautiful looks like. This is perfection.” I want my kids to know that this isn’t true—that this message isn’t okay. At the same time, I want them to know that the growing rate of obesity in this country isn’t okay either.
