Did you know that at least 11% or 8.3 million children in the US live in a home with a parent in need of treatment for alcohol and/or drug dependency? This week’s show is full of resources for the children and for those who care for them. Denise speaks with Karen Moyer of the Moyer Foundation, a public 501 (c)3 non-profit organization founded in 2000 by MLB, world series-winning All-Star pitcher Jamie Moyer and his wife, Karen. They are all about helping children in distress. This week Denise speaks with Karen and with Michelle Olson, the director of the camp in Indiana. There are numerous camps around the country and more being planned. This is a free support for children 9-12 years old where they can feel safe and be with others who are experiencing many of the same things they are.
Denise also shares some information about a Symposium taking place in San Diego County for Grandparents Raising Grandchildren. The event is being put on by AARP, the American Association of Retired People. “Grandparents Raising Grandchildren are not Alone” ( There are over 7 thousand of them in the City of San Diego.)
