On today’s show, we’re going to be taking a look at teens and technology…
Parents, do you sometimes feel that your teen is permanently attached to their digital devices?According to the latest research, approximately 95% of teens use the internet. Teens of this generation have been referred to as digital natives, because of their increased use and reliance on digital devices. And teens are not alone in their use and addiction to these devices! Ironically, the technology that was actually designed to keep us connected…I believe is causing us to disconnect. Parents share with me that they are at a loss in terms of trying to monitor and control their teens use of technology.
So I’ve asked my guest, Erin Stoll, to join me today, to help shed some light on teens and technology, in an effort to help parents gain a better understanding of both the positive and negative effects. Erin is a licensed clinical psychologist. She specializes in the treatment of a wide range of emotional and behavior disorders. Recently, Dr. Stoll has focused on the issue of teens and technology use. She has provided presentations on the topic and assists parents with setting limits as well educating parents and teenagers on the positive and negative uses of technology including addressing and preventing cyberbullying…something that I believe has become an epidemic.
