This week we bring you something very new and totally amazing. This may sound the stuff of science fiction but our guest this week has developed a totally new way of closing wounds, and joining tissue, without using sutures. He has ‘invented’ a new type of ‘glue’ which uses nanoparticle technology and is so simple to use it is just brushed onto the surface of the tissue to be joined / closed, the edges are pressed together and – hey presto- after a couple of seconds the wound is closed. Wounds treated this way not only stop bleeding immediately but heal quickly and with scarcely a scar or any sign it was even there. So to share this amazing idea and explain the current stage in the research, this week on Inside Cosmetic Surgery Today, your show host, Edmonton cosmetic dermatologist Dr Barry Lycka welcomes Dr Ludwik Leibler, Associate Professor at ESPCI ParisTech, (Paris Institute of Technology), Director of the Soft Matter and Chemistry Laboratory. Dr Leibler talks us through what they have discovered, and describes the research that has been done. The 2 doctors then share their thoughts as to the many varied applications this technology could be used on in the future. A fascinating interview, and an idea that will change how wounds are treated & tissues are repaired, forever.
