The Mindset Mechanic – ZEN AND THE ART OF LIVING

Do you save your harshest judgments for yourself? Does your self-talk sound like the world’s meanest person? Would you like to silence that inner critic? If so, this is the program for you. Our guest is Dr. Bob Stahl, PhD, co-author of Living with Your Heart Wide Open. Dr. Bob reveals practical solutions to transform your mind from your enemy to your friend. Dr. Stahl lived in a Buddhist Monastery for eight years. He blends Buddhist philosophy and western psychology into a mindful way of life that everyone can easily live.

Your host and Mindset Mechanic Julie Rahm and her co-host Johnny Novice get into the Mindset Mechanic tool kit to help listeners. This week, they help a woman get over writers block on a proposal; help wives who feel overworked and underappreciated feel better; and help a widower with his relationship. And later, Johnny and Julie share insights from mindful military kids about how to be happier regardless of what is happening around you.

The Mindset Mechanic – ART FROM MY HEART

What do you say when your child says “I’m ugly and fat!”? How can you help your child when they cry “I have no friends! No one understands me!”? What do you do when your child is exposed to violence and won’t talk to you? Our guest, Rae Luskin, has the answers. Rae is the author of Art from My Heart and teaches families to communicate and heal through art. She reveals tips about easy and fun art projects families can do together to build better communications, richer relationships, and greater joy.

Your co-hosts, America’s Mindset Mechanic Julie Rahm and Johnny Novice join Tank the Wonder Dog in helping you shake off whatever got you down last week. Then, Julie and Johnny get into the Mindset Mechanic metaphorical Tool Kit for tools you can use to minimize your stress and maximize your performance. Stress is mostly fear. When you identify and challenge your fears, you push through stress and often find your passion buried beneath those fears!

And, in Operation CHAMPS (Children of Heroes: America’s Military Personnel) Julie interviews 12-year old Army kid, Hunter Moran about his art project for military kids and wounded warriors. His goal is to help the kids and soldiers heal together.

Are you in a “semi-happy” marriage, neither miserable nor fulfilled, asking yourself routinely, “Is this all there is?” If so, you are not alone. In fact, this kind of marriage is shockingly common, even prevalent, among couples in their 30s, 40s and 50s, particularly when children are involved. Yet this reality is not something we have talked about… until now! Our guest, Dr. Pamela Haag, author of Marriage Confidential: The Post-Romantic Age of Workhorse Wives, Royal Children, Undersexed Spouses, and Rebel Couples Who Are Rewriting the Rules, reveals why we have ended up discontented. The choice, Haag argues, isn’t between either rejecting marriage altogether as obsolete, or trying to revive its traditional forms. Instead, she asserts, marriage as an institution must evolve, and we must consider all options, as some marriages already do, including a third way between marriage and divorce. Dr. Haag is provocative and controversial!

Your host and Mindset Mechanic Julie Rahm digs into the Mindset Mechanic Metaphorical Tool Kit to help you learn how to create the relationship you desire. Julie, her co-host Johnny Novice and Tank the Wonder Dog shake off relationship woes with listeners. And, in honor of Independence Day, resident expert Johnny Novice reveals the secret behind the original version of the Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson and how we came to have the document our country uses today.

How many times have you told your child (or someone has told you) to “Get a better attitude!” or “Set some goals!” or “Believe in Yourself!”? And then your child gives you the “cocker spaniel tilt” as if to say “I’d love to, but how?”. Now you have the answers. Our guest is Judy Zerafa, an internationally acclaimed motivational speaker and author of the Go For It! books. For 30 years Judy has helped adults and children learn the keys to success so they can live better and easier lives. She reveals seven keys to success, including the scientific definition of what “attitude” really is, why attitude is the root of your results in life, and how you and your children can learn to master your attitudes!

And, your Mindset Mechanic Julie Rahm and her co-host, Johnny Novice, honor military families and especially military kids during Operation CHAMPS. Their guests are 14-year-old Army kid, Gavin Moran and his mom, Crissy. Gavin recently represented all military kids at a Mental Health Day in Washington, D.C. because of his emotional resilience. Gavin shares insider secrets into the lives of military kids, including what it was like to be in school at Fort Hood during the shooting rampage, surviving his father’s multiple war deployments, and the fears for his father and his family that come standard with military life. And, he speaks from the heart about the teddy bear drive he conducted for kids of deployed service members, for which he gained national media attention. He personally distributed more than 1,000 teddy bears to military kids! Then, Gavin’s mom reveals her role in Gavin’s heart and attitude.
