Biography

Hot Books – Great Authors with Valerie Connelly

When you read about Valerie’s background, you realize that her success as founder and publisher of Nightengale Press is the inevitable result of a life itself worth reading about.

An educator and international traveler since her days as a Peace Corps volunteer in Togo, West Africa, Valerie holds a MA in French Literature from Northwestern University and taught French language and literature for 25 years. In the 80’s she founded the nonprofit organization, Overseas Alliance, to take her students to France to teach them French art, history and architecture, to live in French families, and to meet with her most famous friend, then French President François Mitterrand.

Valerie has traveled extensively in Europe and worked in other parts of the world. Prior to the fall of the Shah of Iran, she wrote an English Language curriculum and hired teachers for a school in Iran. When not teaching, she was a copywriter and computer typsetter, researching and writing about far-flung parts of the world to produce the travel catalogs for a major wholesale luxury tour operator.

In 2003, she founded Nightengale Press, now part of Nightengale Media LLC. The mission is simple: to put the author’s needs first. Nightengale Press has published more than seventy authors, with 90+ books among them; authors receive editing, one-on-one book development, co-op marketing opportunites and training, industry connectivity, book videos and website options. Authors keep fifty to seventy percent of their book’s profit from sales.

As if that is not enough, Valerie has also written two mystery-thrillers Sacred Night (2003) and Sidetracks (2004), as well as her recent book for new authors, Calling All Authors — How To Publish With Your Eyes Wide Open (2007) and her children’s book Arthur, The Christmas Elf (2006).
