The John Layfield Show – Wall Street Protests, is this the start of something bigger?

This week John Layfield takes on the Wall Street protests, the Detroit Lions, Al-Awlaki, and Chris Christie.  In a show that reveals “what’s really going on in our government and why [John Layfield] think[s] it’s going to get worse,” John chastises the government for making the rich richer (and the poor poorer!), and calls them out for currently running against the very policies they created in the first place!

“I’m not sticking up for the rich,” says John Layfield, going onto explain interest rates and why the animosity shown toward bankers and politicians might not be entirely just.  Are you a home owner?  Are you concerned–or just plain confused!–by the economy?  Do you wonder why the rich, who don’t need financing, are the ones to get financing?  Ever wonder why poverty in America is higher now than it’s been in years?  John’s got the answers!

“Governor Rick Perry just lost the race!” says John Layfield.  Why?  Why do you think??  Herman Cain has also been accused of being a racist, as has the Tea Party in general!  Do these accusations have any roots in fact–or are they just plain mean?

“The one thing that could change the race this week is Governor Chris Christie.”  Why?  And would he stand a chance in 2016 if he loses in 2012?

Was the assassination of Al-Awlaki illegal?  Of course!  But is John Layfield sad it happened?  Not a bit!  But how can America break International Law and get away with it?  Maybe.  If they follow John’s plan.

“These guys are out of this world!” says John.  Who’s he talking about?  An unbelievable football team!  But are they “the team to beat?”  And what about basketball?  Can everyone’s collective egos be sorted out in time for the NBA championships?

In the last segment, John Layfield takes on a “dingbat troublemaker” and her frivolous lawsuit!  You’re going to want to stay tuned to the very end of this episode!  John’s here to tell it like it is and he’s not going away!

The Optimistic Muslim – How Do You Change The World Part Two: How Do You Become A World Changer?

How does someone begin the process of changing the world?  Join the Optimistic Muslim, Dr. David Liepert, as he speaks with Lorna Gladstone of the Bwindi Community Program (building schools and changing lives in Uganda), and Sara Hildebrand of Millennium Kids (working hard to help our world achieve the United Nation’s Millennium goals before 2015), about how they started, where they’re going, and how the rest of us can get started changing the world too!

“Lorna has taken it upon her heart to do something about child poverty and child education on the other side of the planet,” says Dr. David Liepert of his first guest, Lorna Gladstone.  While she originally set out to explore the Impenetrable Forest and observe the majestic mountain gorillas, Lorna ended up discovering something else: Her love for the Bwindi village and its people.  Lorna says, of the Bwindi Community Program, “Now I am actually the U.S. rep for sponsorships for the village!”  But who are these sponsorships for?  David and Lorna discuss the children of Uganda, how Eco-tourism brought awareness to the needs of these children, how the HIV/AIDS epidemic has affected their lives, and what you can do to help!

In the second half of the episode, Sara Hildebrand shares her past experiences in social justice and how that background eventually led her to create Millennium Kids.  Currently, “over a billion” people in the world are living on less than $1.25 a day, with over half the world living on less than $2.00 a day.  Millennium Kids seeks to eradicate poverty, as well as promote gender equality and education.  Sara runs down the list of  goals–all to be met by the year 2015!  Will we be able to achieve everything on the list?  And how can we, the everyday citizen, help things to progress in the right direction?

This episode concludes The Optimistic Muslim‘s “How Do You Change the World” interview series.  It will leave you feeling happy, hopeful, and ready to change the world…for the better!

Hovey’s Outdoor Adventures – 200-Year Plan for Gulf Coast Restoration

President Obama’s Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Task Force got what they asked for when I presented a plan for the 200-year restoration of the Mississippi Delta following the effects of the BP oil spill, Katrina and Rita.

In a mash-up between traditional journalism, citizen advocacy and professional testimony, I broke the rules of traditional journalism by not only making a one-hour radio show from the event, but actually seeking to directly influence a National debate in what might be termed “reality radio.” Editors absolutely condemn this kind of activity on the part of reporters. “You report the news, not make it,” might be a typical City Editor’s remark to a young reporter.

Yet, do I deprive the nation of what I believe is a workable plan for the long-term restoration of the Mississippi River Delta based on a lifetime of experience as a Professional Geologist because I also have my own radio show and can report the event?

Evoking “reality broadcasting,” I extended this TV concept to radio by recording my presentation and using it in this radio show. Hearings like those held by the Task Force are often deadly dull. I broke another convention by presenting my remarks “in persona,” as the Backyard Sportsman, rather than using the more formal language of a Professional Geologist. My actual presentation, stumbles and all, are included in this broadcast.
I leave it to the listeners to judge whether this approach was successful or not.

I also sampled parts of the formal morning presentation and the break-out Listening Session that I attended. For the cooking section I recorded comments from an EPA delegate of Vietnamese extraction about fish sauce, one of the real secrets of Vietnamese cooking which has its roots in Western culture back to the days of the Roman Empire.

Ads on this show include those by Biloxi Bosoms and SIN, Inc., Synthetic Industrial Non-Nutritives, Inc., who highlights local culture by advocating Louisiana Nutra Burgers, made from the exotic nutria whose grazing habits damage the marsh grasses to the extent that the Louisiana has a bounty on them.

A 15-minute YouTube video of this event which includes my presentation is available at http://youtu.be/9k4yE6JTAd4.

Social Media: Cheap and Easy – Amazon Makes Social Media Better, And Listeners Get Their Questions Answered

When Forrester Research hosted the Customer Experience Forum, they asked Tealeaf to do some research with attendees. They discovered that 87% of attendees believe online customer experience management is more important now than ever before. Yet only half of attendees have implemented strategies for improving that experience or measuring results of the experience.

This week, we look at why every customer experience is important – online and offline. Plus we look at how to make them better.

Our starting point is Amazon.com. They have been getting social media right for a long time.

We look at how Amazon’s “closed attitude” toward social media has brought huge benefit to Amazon and their customers. Now that they’re adding more social media elements, it’s worth out time to pay attention to what they’re doing and how. After all, when’s the last time you saw Amazon being raked over the coals for violating privacy or making people angry?

Which brings us to listener questions. There have been so many, we’ve had to sort them out into categories. So this week, we’re looking at questions that relate to giving prospects and customers a good experience.

Russell Taylor asks “How would you go about using LinkedIn to market your product or service?” It’s a common question, and one that can easily take you – and you business – down a dangerous road.

Raffaella Gagliano asks “What social media strategy can I use to promote a cultural event.” She doesn’t say what the event is, so I use Caribana in Toronto as the example. It’s an exciting event that could easily be boring if promoted poorly.

This leads us into a question from Chris Conroy: “How do you produce a video for your company/organization? Do you do it yourself or hire a professional video producer? What are the main considerations?”

Then we wrap up with a question from Dahna Chandler. Dahna asks “Which platform will give us the best reach without a significant learning curve or financial investment?” Dahna and his father want to start a podcast and they’re looking at different podcasting platforms.

To be honest, the question shows a common train of thought among business owners. Dahna has it completely right by looking for a service that easy to get started with. Blog Talk Radio is one of them. You can get started quickly, and keep learning as you go. But the idea of looking for a platform to give you a lot of reach is where we start to go astray.

A platform can be hugely popular and still not give you or me any great reach. That term, “reach,” means being able to get the attention of lots of people. It’s up to you and me to keep that attention once we get it. And that’s what we look at in answering Dahna’s question.

You can let me know when you have questions by sending an e-mail to listeners@theconradhall.com.
