In the wake of the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook elementary school, moms around the country were forced to once again confront our greatest fear – the loss of a child – and grapple with how to make our society safer for all of our children. Many moms have decided that they are unwilling to sit by any longer and wait for the next news story to flash across their television screens. Some mothers think more guns are the answer. Others believe that it is time to get rid of assault weapons and regulate guns to better control who has access. My guest on this show is Kim Russell, National Director of Chapter Outreach and one of the founding members of One Million Moms for Gun Control. Her organization launched after Sandy Hook and they are committed to uniting moms to reduce gun violence. No matter where you stand on this subject, I think we can all agree that it is time that moms became more engaged in issues that affect our families. In addition to hearing Kim’s personal story and why this cause is so near and dear to her heart, this show offers a lot of content about guns, gun violence, and the NRA.
After you listen to the show, I invite you to join me in further discussion of the question of how we can keep our children safe at the Playdate Planet Blog. You can learn more about One Million Moms at their website or on their Facebook page.
