The pace of broadcasting and managing the operations of a radio station can be hectic at best. The shows, personalities and sponsorships can make for long and exciting times and days.  Couple those activities with producing and leading his own shows as well as forming a new recording group, we get a highly energetic and motivated young industry go getter Mark “Mark Angle” Lofton, Production Manager of WCLK 91.9 “Jazz of the City” at Clark-Atlanta University (CAU).  We get into Mark’s head on a number of topics including Police Brutality, Social Media and his pet project the “DangerFeel Newbies”.

Marquis K. Lofton also known as “Mark Angel” (CAU ’04) currently serves as Production Manager/ On- Air Personality/ DJ for Atlanta’s Jazz Station, Jazz 91.9 WCLK. He also assists in the programming of the station and has aspirations to become a Program Director. He is the host of “The Contemporary Jazz Showcase” (Saturdays 10a-2p) and “Saturday Evening Jazz” (Saturdays 9p-12a) on WCLK.

Hailing from Largo, Maryland, Lofton graduated from CAU with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Mass Media Arts with a concentration on Radio/ TV/ Film. He was fortunate to have served as an intern for The Georgia Dome, Georgia Public Radio, Cartoon Network and 790 AM “The Zone” during his matriculation. Under the tutelage of late Professor Bill Clark, he became one of the founders of the first student-run Hip Hop station in the Atlanta University Center, 98.1 WSTU. In 2001, WSTU won Black College Radio’s “Station of the Year” award with Lofton serving as Station Manager.  His other honors include “The WSTU Superstar” Award, “The WCLK Dependability & Determination” Award and “The 5 Years of Service” Award from CAU.

After graduating from CAU, he became engineer & editor of the nationally syndicated “HBCU Sports Report” and has held other positions including Producer for CBS Radio (V103/WAOK) & Master Control/ Ingest Operator for Fox Sports.

Lofton’s interests include Music production, audio engineering and DJing. He has had the opportunity to DJ at Centennial Olympic Park, The Alliance Theatre, Center Stage, The Porter Sanford Performing Arts Center, The Apache Café and other venues throughout Atlanta. As a Music Producer, he is currently looking forward to the release of the debut album entitled ‘Hariet’ from his group, The DangerFeel Newbies in late September of 2014.

Mark Angel sees being the Production Manager of Jazz 91.9 WCLK as an opportunity to bring experience gained back to the students of CAU.
