Tosher by Adrian Winney

The Author

Adrian Winney is an award-winning author from Scotland in the UK. He was born in Lowestoft in England and has been married to his wife Maggie for more years than he cares to recall. The story of Tosher was in Adrian’s head for some considerable time and it was his wife who finally persuaded him to put pen to paper and publish all those ideas that had been floating in his head. Adrian’s life like so many people’s lives has been a life of contrast, he spent thirteen years in the Royal Air Force working in avionics both in the UK and Germany. In addition to his career in the Royal Air Force he worked in the Gas and Oil Industry for over twenty-five years which took him all over Europe and eventually onto the Nort Sea Rigs. Life on the platform rigs can be challenging at the best of times as the weather conditions in the North Sea can be perilous. However, after an industrious career complex medical issue imposed a more subdued lifestyle on Adrian, these changes profoundly affected both his physical and mental health. Adapting to new circumstances has come with difficult choices, some good, some bad but one of the better ones was writing, especially in the genres he loves best, them being, historical, adventure and science fiction which are prevalent in this first book of his, so let’s turn to the book.

The Book

When you open this book, you’ll discover twenty-three chapters brimming with history, adventure and fascination. The story is set in the eighteen hundreds in London in the Uk and tells the story of Tosh and Jack Tanner’s lives around the sewers beneath the streets of London. At that time working in the sewers was dangerous and at times violent, you needed to know whom you good trust to survive. Tosh is a foundling who Jack Tanner takes under his wings, their life is far from easy, yet Jack manages to instil in Tosh a means of survival by whatever means. From a foundling to a streetwise young man Tosh cleverly engineers a path for himself, but that path is littered with tragedy, strife and mistrust, coupled with a degree of rightful revenge undertaken with brutal tactics. Can revenge ever be justified by rightful means in a person’s mind? Tosh seems to think so but would you the reader agree with Tosh’s actions – You need to read the story to formulate your own viewpoints on how Tosh conducts himself throughout this whole gripping sequence of events – Hmm…is all I say. The cast of characters blend well together and compliment the overall tale, which I must admit has been well composed to make a real page-turning narrative. It’s certainly worth a read.

Enjoy! I did.
