Our show is for all those who love the written word, be they writers or simply readers. Your host is both an avid reader and the author of four books, who studied under arguably the two finest practitioners of literary fiction in North America and two of our greatest living prose stylists in English, Paul West and William H. Gass. He is best known for Final Drafts, his thorough study of the phenomenon of literary suicide in the Twentieth Century published by Prometheus Books, which was chosen as an alternate selection of the Reader’s Subscription Book Club in 2004. He also has independently published three works of fiction, one of which Henry Boulanger of Mushannon Town won the 2010 Pinnacle Book Achievement Award in the category of historical fiction. Our show will turn the spotlight on those who publish independently and with small presses and will expose new voices, authors such as our first guest Ed Desautels, who will speak about the plight of the contemporary author. As this series continues, we plan to talk to authors who write with originality, verve and style and who aren’t afraid to challenge the reader. We will also host shows devoted to past masters, heroic word patriots who overcame great obstacles, who wrote in new and innovative ways, or who defied convention by visiting formerly taboo topics and thereby opened new fields of exploration for literature.
