Recently I saw a Facebook Post…actually more of a rant by a local celebrity chef here in Charleston, SC. This chef also happens to be a Dad. Brett McKee spoke about a particular TV show, he’d watched, about the increasing number of young adults who are returning home to live with Mom and Dad…they’re referred to as the boomerang kids. In his own colorful language, this Dad wasted no time in laying out the many reasons he thinks that kids are not learning to become independent responsible adults.
I commended him for his insight and honesty. We’ve talked about this same issue on Wholehearted Parenting. Last fall I interviewed Hal Runkel, author of Screamfree Parenting. Hal is is in the process of writing a book about how we’re continuing to raise kids, rather than launching young adults.
I decided Brett McKee would be a perfect guest to join my conversation. We’re going to hear his perspective, with his own Dad spin. Brett is a world famous chef, whose career in the restaurant industry spanned over 40 years. With too many achievements and accolades to mention, suffice it to say that he’s made his mark in the culinary world. He “retired” so to speak from the restaurant business after working many 18 hour long days. Brett is now able to give back and spend more time with his family. He has taken his culinary passion into his new business, Insanely Good, where he shares his creativity and passion with others, through hosting private events, offering his talents as a personal chef, and on and on. But most importantly Brett is a single Dad with three daughters.
Hope you’ll join us!
