Charisse Witherspoon is president and CEO of Witherspoon Marketing Group, Inc, an award-winning marketing/management consulting firm. Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn recently appointed Charisse to the state of Illinois’ Business Enterprise Council. She also serves as president-elect for NAWBO Chicago, the local chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners and the largest of more than 60 chapters across the U.S. In 2004, she became the first African American elected president of the 63-year-old Publicity Club of Chicago.
Prior to founding her firm, Charisse directed public relations for the Chicago Defender newspaper and WBEZ Radio. She demonstrated her event management acumen as a coordinator of three Bud Billiken Parades, then the second largest parade in America. Charisse hosted and produced an award-winning business issues public service radio program that aired on WGCI-AM for more than a decade. She also has been saluted by WMAQ-TV and featured by CNN.
Media experience (also including radio and television production work in Illinois and New York and a degree in journalism) provides the foundation for the effective, strategic campaigns that are a hallmark of her firm. In her spare time, she also enjoys live theater, Scrabble and discussions relating to the development of human capital.
