Today we’re going to take a look at mother-daughter relationships, specifically during the teen years…often referred to as the dreaded teen years!!! Our common belief seems to be that Moms and their teenage daughters just can’t get along. We’re often told that it’s normal for daughters to pull away from their Moms, and we’re left with the hope that eventually they’ll come back. But sometimes when mothers and daughters reconnect, there may be some unresolved issues that continue into their adult relationship.
My guests today believe there is a different and better way for both mothers and daughters. Sil and Eliza Reynolds are a mother and daughter team whose workshops and writing have taught hundreds of mothers and daughters how to thrive, not just survive through the teen years. When Sil is not leading workshops, she is a nurse practitioner and therapist in private practice in New York’s Hudson Valley. For more than 30 years, she has worked with mothers and daughters of all ages, helping them to create balanced and meaningful lives.
Eliza is a senior at Brown University where she is studying psychology, gender studies, political science, dance, and nonfiction writing. She is a trained sex education counselor for Planned Parenthood and a certified peer mediator.
Sil and Eliza have been facilitating Mothering & Daughtering weekend workshops at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York and the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California, since 2006. Recently they’ve written a book together, entitled “Mothering-Daughtering: Keeping Your Bond Strong Through the Teen Years”.
I hope you’ll join us…it’s never too late to to nurture and grow your own mother-daughter relationship.
“Mother-daughter conflict during the teen years is neither inevitable nor healthy. There’s another way. Read this book and learn how to keep your mother-daughter bond strong and healthy for a life-time.”
