While on an outing to their favorite restaurant last Thursday (June 8, 2011), hosts Sri Ram Kaa and Kira Raa were surprised to walk smack into actor-director Mel Gibson!  “The first thing I thought,” says Kira,”was ‘wow, he’s a lot shorter than I thought! Those cameras are really good!'”  But, after the initial shock wore off, their thoughts turned to observing the rest of the restaurant patrons.  Sri and Kira found that all around them–from the host to the customers to the bus boys–was a sense of awe and what is generally known as “celebrity worship.”  But why was this?  Sri and Kira decided to dig deeper.

It’s no secret that Mel Gibson is a very troubled man…  So why do we continue to idolize him?  “I think that celebrities are a little crazy and maybe that stimulates the crazy gene in all of us,” says Sri.  Men such as Mel Gibson, Charlie Sheen, and Arnold Schwarzenegger continue to steal the limelight with their bad behavior; and we let them!–Why?

“Each and every one of us has an interior world. And whether that interior world are your tender feelings or perhaps your most sacred connections–in that inner world, it is special and wonderful if you look at it and celebrate it,” says Sri.  But, according to Kira, celebrities are all about “projections,” “illusions,” and “larger than life personas!”  What becomes of the celebrity’s interior world?  Do they even still have one?

Join Sri and Kira as they discuss celebrity worship with focus on The Fall of the celebrity.   “When you gaze at The Fall, it gets more attention than all the good works that were ever done [by the celebrity],” notes Kira.  But why?  Sri and Kira investigate, using Mel Gibson, Charlie Sheen, and–the latest “Fall” guy–Rep. Anthony Weiner as examples.  Why do we rejoice in the Fall of celebrities?  And how can we avoid similar falls in our own lives?  Find out!
