Dr. Rossi’s guest this week, Dr. Matt Chandler is a veterinary opthamologist and he discusses all of the common problems of dog and cat eyes. Dr. Chandler recounts some of the training required to become a Board Certified Veterinary Opthalmologist, and then proceeds to discuss cataracts, glaucoma, and other common diseases of the dog’s eye. He states that the most common signs owners can look for are redness and cloudiness of the eye, but included less specific signs such as lethargy or withdrawal. He also reminded the audience that cats are different; the most common eye disorder of cats is anterior uveitis (inflammation of the front of the eye) associated with herpes virus. He encourages rapid examination and treatment if any eye signs occur. This show is packed with valuable advice on your pet’s eyes and options for treatment.
Dr. Rossi also related a fable of an experienced veterinarian who took a day off! What happened and how it relates to veterinary reviews on line is a fascinating story. He also warned cat owners about the risks of heartworm disease in cats! It is much more common than you think, and most people are not giving prevention to their cats.
