In this episode of Addicted to Addicts, author and host Denise Krochta interviews Rand Teed, the primary instructor of Canada’s prized Drug Class.  “Rand has been working with teens for over 35 years and for the past 15 years has been helping them understand how substance use can get in the way of having the life they want.”

In this informative interview, Denise has Rand Teed elaborate on his concept of “Say Know to Drugs” versus the classic “Say NO to Drugs.”  As a former addict himself–with a key to his father’s Pharmacy and liquor cabinet!–Rand uses his personal experiences of failure and triumph to relate to today’s troubled adolescents.  Rand describes his teaching approach as “non-confrontational and not negative.”  He introduced this program nearly a decade ago and kids and teens have been listening ever since!

Denise and Rand also investigate the differences between Drug Education in the United States versus Canada: Why does the United States only offer Drug Education to children in 5th grade and then seemingly ignore the issue in their later school years?  Is Canada’s younger legal drinking age (18-19) better or worse than the United State’s legal drinking age of 21?  Does regular drug and alcohol education throughout one’s schooling make a difference later in life?  Does a lack of education on these issues leave a child/teenager at a larger risk for addiction?

Now in its third season, Drug Class airs in both Canada and some parts of the United States.  Drug Class can also be found online at their Official Website to stream or to buy.  Or, for those of you who prefer reading to watching, Drug Class can also be found in written form on their informative frequently updated Blog.

For anyone who’s ever had Drug Education in school, or has a child who’s going through it (or needs to go through it), this Podcast is for you.  Get the inside scoop from Canada’s leading Drug Education instructor today!
