Dr. Rossi’s guest this week is Clint Wilkinson, an animal rescuer who works with Wildlife Solutions, one of the largest animal rescue organizations in the United States. Their agents can be recognized by the distinctive zebra-striped trucks! Clint described how he rescues a wide variety of wild animals from people’s properties. These animals have included raccoons, skunks, opossum, armadillos, snakes, and many others. Most of these animals are relocated, but introduced or non-native species are required to be euthanized. Clint discussed in detail rodent control and some great tips for eliminating them from your yard and home. Two tips included clearing debris from around your house, and reducing unnecessary shrubbery and trees. He finished with a humorous story that involved an Englishman seeing an opossum for the first time, and his reaction! You can reach Clint at 1800-2GO-WILD (1-800-246-9453) or www.wildlifesolutions.com
Dr. Rossi then discussed the importance of checking product labels before applying them to your pet, and shared a scary story about one such case with a cat. He also mentioned a totally preventable disease, called pyometra, which is an infection of the uterus that usually occurs a month after heat. Affected animals often become anorectic and lethargic, and require immediate surgery. And in honor of Halloween, he shared some trivia about rodents!
Finally, Dr. Rossi excitedly reminded listeners about his new book, “All Things Cold and Slimy,” a modern version of a James Herriot book, and promises that you’ll enjoy it! Check it out on hardback or an e-Edition at iTunes, Amazon, or http://www.5thcornerpublishing.com/
