Podcast: Play in new window | Download
Have you heard about bath salts? Do you know what ordinary spice has become a popular choice for getting high? Do you think parents can protect their children from drug and alcohol addiction? If you have children, you need to listen to this week’s show. I speak with Denise Krotcha, an expert on helping loved ones of addicts. She’s the author of Sweat: A Practical Plan for Keeping your Heart Intact While Loving an Addict, and the radio show host of Addicted to Addicts Survival 101.
During this important show, Denise explains that not only do you need to know what your child may be exposed to at school or with friends, you also need to understand that drug and alcohol addiction can happen in any family. Although Denise speaks all over the country, this is the first time she has spoken so openly and candidly about her own family’s journey. Denise left a high-powered career to devote herself to raising her two boys. They both thrived under her care and did well in school. The older son chose to attend Princeton and then went on to become a lawyer. The younger son matriculated at the college of his choice and became a prescription drugs, alcohol, and heroin addict. When her son became an addict, Denise had to learn new parenting lessons. She had to end her addiction to her addict, and stop enabling her son and letting his problems subsume her life. Join us as we talk about Denise’s struggles and important lessons that we all can learn from her family’s experience.
