Parenting is tough. And the early years can be especially difficult dealing with sleep deprivation, picky eaters, temper tantrums, and potty training! How are you to know if you are doing the job the best way possible?
On this week’s show, I speak with child psychologist and child development expert, Dr. Heather Wittenberg, known on the Web as the Baby Shrink, to set us straight. In addition to her academic credentials, Dr. Heather is raising four young children of her own and knows first-hand the hard realities of parenting. Dr. Heather believes that parenting should be a joyful time. She says it is unhealthy for both parent and child if we shoot for perfection; rather, we must strive to be “good enough” parents. To help us get there, she talks about assessing what kind of baby or youngster you have and then gives down-to-earth, practical advice for handling all of the common challenges parents face.
If you’re struggling with any of these issues, or if you just want someone to tell you why it is more than okay not to be perfect, you’ll want to listen in to this week’s show! You can also visit BabyShrink.com to find additional content and read about Dr. Heather’s forthcoming book, “Let’s Get This Potty Started: The BabyShrink’s Guide to Potty Training.” And I hope you will join me in a continued conversation about “good enough” parenting at the Playdate Planet Blog.
