Part One: Gloria converses with Dr. Jane Healy, award winning author of several books including the international best seller, Your Child’s Growing Mind and her latest book, Different Learners: Identifying, Preventing, and Treating Your Child’s Learning Problems, about: Are I-Pads Really Good for Toddlers?

What can happen to the brains of young children with too much exposure to screen technologies? The answer isn’t pretty. In this conversation, Dr. Jane Healy, who was twice named “Educator of the Year” by Delta Kappa Gamma shares important new brain research that supports with certainty the claim: Early exposure to screens puts youngsters at risk for all sorts of learning problems and disadvantages such as hyperactivity, aggression, and even can promote the onset of ADD. Early exposure also reduces a child’s ability to be empathetic to others. Dr. Jane Healy has decades of experience helping parents with media issues. Her book, Endangered Minds, is a classic in the field. Dr. Healy explains the negative effects of early exposure to screen technologies in clear terms, while offering parents many practical ideas for supporting optimal brain development.

Young brains are easily conditioned. This is the key concept Jane and Gloria would like parents of young children to understand and take to heart when listening to this podcast. There is never a more crucial time for brain development than in the first few years of life. This podcast reminds parents of young children of the fragility of the young brain. Gloria and Jane give parents solid, scientific reasons to limit screens as much as possible for young children, thereby proactively encouraging moms and dads to parent well in our digital world.

Part Two: Gloria, founder of The Parent Coaching Institute (PCI), and developer of The PCI Coaching Model, coaches Geri, a mother of three boys, ages 13, 11, and 9. All the boys have their favorite electronic gadget that is driving Geri crazy.

This is the first session of 12 sessions of PCI Parent Coaching for Geri. In this session, Gloria gets a clearer picture of all of Geri’s frustrations and challenges. You probably can relate! Gloria listens attentively to Geri’s concerns and discusses the overview of the coaching Geri will receive in the upcoming weeks. Gloria gives Geri a surprising “homework” assignment.
