Miscarriage. Stillbirth. Perinatal death. Words that do not belong in the same universe as hope. The baby blanket is packed away. The crib dismantled. The nursery door is closed…like the broken heart of a mother who never got to be one, like a dad who may not even have known his coming role.

For families experiencing a miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death, the “baby story” either never got written or was so short that the second page of the Baby Book remains blank forever. How can a footprint that may only exist in the dreams of a young woman make such an impact and cause so much grief?
