Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa, has taught millions of people how to cook.  Her gracious hospitality welcomes Food Network viewers into her kitchen each week to experience comfort and a taste of home.  In her most recent book, Cook Like A Pro, Ina provides great tips and recipes for the home chefs to elevate their skills. And each recipe has its own story.

Soon after our Kitchen Chat in the beautiful Viking and La Cornue Showroom in the Merchandise, Chef Jaime and I got to meet Ina Garten backstage at the Chicago Theatre.  This was such a highlight in my culinary journey.  She is lovely and genuine.  Here are her top three tips for the home chef:

  1. Use an oven thermometer;
  2. Season properly; and
  3. Follow the recipe exactly as written.  As long as you make it the first time to see how it was meant to be, you can change it later.
