The story is essentially a thank you letter from a former refugee child, for an aid package that was sent from America in the aftermath of the Second World War.
At the end of World War II, the author was in a recreation center in Italy organized by the Joint Distribution Committee as part of the Marshal Plan. This is her very personal, poignant and heart-warming story written in the form of a letter.
Although the letter is addressed to “Mary”, it is also addressed to all those who belong to the generation of Mary. Mary represents all of those in America who sent aid packages to the children abroad who were victims of the war. The story exudes messages of human love, kindness, compassion, and the power of goodness.
