Enlightenment of Change – Small Businesses Need to Know – Internet Law
Connie’s fun quote is by ~ Ahsoka Tano and she says,
“This is a new day, a new beginning.”
Do you know who Ahsoka Tano is and which movie her character was introduced in?
Absoka is a character from the 2008 animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars. She was introduced as the Padawanapprentice to Anakin Skywalker (the future Darth Vader).
If you are old enough to remember the original Star Wars movie, which was released in 1980 – then you are old enough to remember the debut of the Internet in 1982. Just two years after this world – changing film came to be, our own science fiction journey began.
Sometimes the origins of the Internet seem like it began in a Galaxy far, far away doesn’t it?…lol. Our new reality is that we can get any question answered using Google and have that answer in seconds!
With this new cyber space reality also comes legal exposure for many businesses that have an online presence. Which at this point is almost all businesses.
Although Google is a great tool for random questions, as a business owner I would never use it for legal advice. The Internet actually creates a whole legal can of worms for businesses. Not to worry!
My guest today is, Richard Chapo (“chap-oh”). Richard is a well-known Internet lawyer with 25 years of experience based in San Diego.
Richard’s philosophy is to proactively position his clients to minimize their potential exposure to lawsuits. He provides advice to clients as large as multinational corporations and as small as hobby bloggers with an eye towards eliminating potential problem areas before lawsuits are filed.
Richard advises on Internet-specific legal topics such as the DMCA and FTC Regulations.
