Mnemonics and Music to help learn mindfulness
Podcast: Play in new window | Download
In this episode, I share how I teach mindfulness, awareness, and relaxation breathing to elementary students. I teach two mini–Virtual Transition Awareness Breathing (VTAB) sessions each week. I use mnemonics and music as a part of my methodology in teaching. We are working on mindfulness talking in Virtual TAB. I found a fantastic mnemonic tool to help my elementary students learn mindful speaking, and I wanted to share it with you. I hope after you listen to this podcast, you will feel comfortable sharing this information with your family and friends. The mnemonic is APPLE.Acknowledge = Notice your feelingsPause = Don’t react. Stop for a moment.Pull back = Looking at ourselves from the outside and being aware that we are not our thoughts. Our mind is processing.Let go = Let go of the thought or feeling. We are choosing to breathe and not ruminate on feelings or thoughts. Explore = Explore the now. Notice how our bodies are responding as we bring ourselves to calm. We also explore what we have learned from the experience. We take the time and look at our lives from a growth mindset point of view. Here are my resources:
