After World War II, psychology became a science. The focus of interventions was on weakness. The emphasis on weakness led to the birth of the disease model. After several years of mental health professionals concentrating on the weakness of patients, the World Health Organization challenged the disease model assumptions were challenged -If sadness was eliminated, would joy or happiness evolve? Significant inequalities existed in the disease model approach to helping patients achieve a healthy lifestyle. A new approach is needed to explore concentrating on strengths, which leads to the Health and Wellness model. Current research supports a significant increase in mental health interventions for stress, anxiety, and depression. I hope to challenge your assumptions with this podcast. Building on strengths, changing perspectives of tragic life-changing events, and creating positivity from experiences will require new blueprints of stress management. My goal is not to convince you to change. My goal is to offer research-based evidence information that supports change is needed.
