The Author

Jane M McCabe is an American author, painter, former teacher and associate editor, she was born in Billings, Montana where she attended various school levels before attending the University of Washington in Seattle where she obtained a BA in Art and a minor in English. From there she progressed to obtaining an MA in Fine Art Painting at San Francisco Art Institute in 1967. The following Three years Jane attended Luther Seminary in St Paul’s, Minnesota and I think I would be justified in saying this was the start of Jane’s earnest religious pilgrimage, a pilgrimage that she has been on right up to this very day. The path she chose to satisfy her unquenchable thirst for religious discernment is very much in evidence in this book of hers.

Apart from her theological findings Jane has diversified in to teaching, painting, writing, illustrating, editing and delivering one man shows all of which she has done at various stages of her illustrious life. Boredom does not exist in Jane’s world, life is for living, exploring and pursuing your dreams even if they don’t always turn out as you expect. Always be prepared to give it ago is her stance. Jane has criss-crossed America in her pursuit of a worthwhile lifestyle and careers. Would she do it all over again if age was on her side, who knows.

The Book

This articulate book, which is extremely well written and though out, is really the authors own personal journey of exploration around some of the world’s great religions. The divine teachings within those religious sects hold numerous messages, whether we as individual humans allow these messages/ teachings to infiltrate our minds without preconceived prejudices getting in the way is another matter. Jane herself had many predetermined thoughts before she embarked on her life-long religious pilgrimage, she has dipped her toe into Lutheranism, Islam and Christianity, what she has learnt is to keep an open mind when exploring religions. So, when you read her book about her personal journey of doctrinal theories keep an open mind as she tells the story of prophecy as one narrative, acknowledging Mohammed as a prophet in the Judeo-Christian tradition and at the same time equating stories from the Koran with their biblical translations.

To give you an idea as to the contents of the book in a little more detail I’m listing the titles of each chapter.

Chapter 1: From the Beginning of Time to the Time of Abraham, about 2000 BC.
Chapter 2: Revelation to the Ancient Hebrews, from Abraham to the Birth of Jesus, from about 2000 BC to AD 1.
Chapter 3: Revelation to Jesus and the Early Christians, from AD1 to AD 320.
Chapter 4: The Conversion of Constantine and the Nicene Council, from AD 320 to AD 570.
Chapter 5: Revelation to Mohammed from AD 570 to AD 632.
Chapter 6: The Koran. Part 1: Old Testament References.
Chapter 7: The Koran, Part 2: New Testament References.
