Mentoring is as old as the hills, its a practise that’s mentioned in Greek Mythology in the Odyssey. Mentoring is different to coaching and leading, it’s a special relationship in which wisdom is passed from one generation to the next. There are so many books on mentoring and I have read many of them, and it’s clear to me that if you ask 5 people you will get 5 different answers to what mentoring is. Many confuse it with coaching, some with managing and leading. On today’s show we will be speaking with one of the world’s leading authority on coaching, Julie Starr,  Julie has written two books on coaching, The Coaching Manual and Brilliant Coaching. Julie has now written what I believe will become the definitive guide to mentoring, The Mentoring Manual. We’re going to discuss what mentoring is, what it isn’t, why it’s important and provide framework for those who want to become mentors.
