Have you ever felt like you didn’t fit in? Like you didn’t conform to somebody else’s ideal of how you should look, act or be in this world? I know I have and if I had to guess, I’d say most of you listening have felt the same in your life. I went to a lecture by Elizabeth Gilbert last week and this topic of conformity, or rather nonconformity, came up and I wanted to share some insights with you that I gained this week.
The true definition of conformity is: behavior in accordance with socially accepted conventions or standards. But who sets these socially accepted conventions or standards? And how do we know what they are, let alone why we are expected to follow them? We live in a highly individualized world where anything is possible but many of us go through life wasting so much time and energy trying to make ONE THING the right way. On this episode, I explore why there isn’t any one perfect way to do anything and how to change our own perceptions on that! Songs this week include Outnumbered by Dermot Kennedy and Oh Eleanor by Forest Fire Gospel Choir.
