I invite you to take a walk with me as we put the practice of mindfulness to the test. Mindfulness practice takes time to grow into a natural response or a habit. So, what do we do to become comfortable and competent in mindfulness skills? When we are learning something new, or we’re learning a new technique in mindfulness or relaxation or awareness topics, different situations creep up and put us to the test. Our initial response may be that because I had this stressful situation, I did not think about my mindfulness skills; therefore, mindfulness doesn’t work. During our time together, I invite you to learn how to pause. The transition from stress to mindfulness practice includes a pause. And so, if we break the transition into a small, concrete, and achievable step, our success will increase in adapting to using mindfulness as a response to stress. I invite you and challenge you next time when things get intense in emotion or are heavy with tension to take the mindful challenge and pause.
