Hosted by John Henigin
Fish Talk Radio is about sharing the joys of fishing and the outdoors. Our mission is to motivate people to get off the couch and onto the water. Equally important is the goal of encouraging anglers to become involved and to take the lead in conservation and in creating sustainable fisheries. Fish Talk Radio is for anyone who has ever dreamed of or picked up a rod and headed for the water… and for anyone who likes some fun!
Our first guest is Joe Meyer from Berkley Line. Joe gives us a mini-lesson as to why fishing line is so important. It’s the workhorse when it comes to fishing, but doesn’t get the respect it deserves. Info at https://www.berkley-fishing.com.
Next we bring on Guido Rahr, Executive Director of The Wild Salmon Center. They work to protect the strongest wild salmon rivers around the entire North Pacific. Check out https://www.wildsalmoncenter.org. And don’t miss the book about Guido called Stronghold: One Man’s Quest to Save the World’s Wild Salmon.
And finally we chat with Harry Morse from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. We talk about elk and wild pig hunting. In fact, Harry was just back from his own successful hunting trip. For more info on the California Department of Fish and Wildlife go to https://wildlife.ca.gov.
In 1999, John Henigin thought a local radio show about fishing in Santa Barbara might work. Ten years later, he has been honored four times by The Outdoors Writers Association of California as “Best Outdoor Radio Show of the Year”. Fish Talk Radio has grown to cover about half the population of California on six stations plus Northern Nevada. Fish Talk radio is syndicated nationally on Sports Byline USA. Now WebTalkRadio.net takes it to a much larger audience.
John is Ambassador at Large of the VAGABUNDOS DEL MAR, President of Outdoors Writers Association California (OWAC.org), and is on the Boards of the Santa Barbara Carriage & Western Museum and The Lake Cachuma Nature Center.
Living in Santa Barbara and a legal resident of Cabo San Lucas, John keeps a boat in Lake Cachuma and spends a lot of time after big game fish. As operator of “Reel Fun Adventures,” he hosts fishing trips to Alaska, Baja and Costa Rica as a regular part of his job. John also always finds time to sponsor kids’ fishing derbies and to take kids out on his boat at the lake.
